February 4: Heart DAY

February 4:    HEART DAY — $25 Heart Day features the “Heart Basic” package of Baptist’s comprehensive “Healthy Life Screenings” program.

This screening, held by appointment,is available for adults ages 18 and older. You are required to fast for 12hours before your scheduled screening.

Valued at $450, the Heart Basic package includes:• Heart risk assessment• Blood pressure• Height and weight with BMI calculation• EKG• Total cholesterol, glucose, and other metabolic blood work

Baptist Announces Medical Directors for Cardiovascular Services

Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., announces Executive Medical Directors for its cardiovascular services.

Alfredo Figueroa, MD, and James Warnock, Jr., MD, both of Jackson Heart Clinic, have been named Executive Medical Directors for Baptist Cardiovascular Services. 

Dr. Figueroa is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is also chief of nuclear medicine at Baptist Medical Center. He completed his pulmonary and cardiology fellowships at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then served as assistant professor of medicine and chief of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He completed additional training in interventional cardiology at the Baylor-affiliated Houston Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Dr. Warnock is a cum laude graduate of both Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed an internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and served three years in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Air Station in Meridian, Miss. Dr. Warnock then completed his medicine residency, serving as chief resident, and cardiology fellow at UMC. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and its subspecialty of cardiovascular disease.

Brian Johnson, MD, Named Orthopaedic Services Executive Medical Director

Orthopaedic Surgeon Brian Johnson, MD, with Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, was named Executive Medical Director of Baptist Orthopaedic Services. 

Dr. Johnson earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Louisiana State University, followed by his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Johnson completed a fellowship with extra specialty training in joint replacement surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
